Visitors: General Policies

The Souvay Memorial Library is OPEN to patrons who are not current affiliates of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary.  If you are making a trip to Kenrick specifically to use the library, however, you must make a prior appointment.

  • Contact us, or call 314-792-6131 to schedule a visit.
  • ALL visitors–including clergy, MOBIUS affiliates, and visiting scholars from non-MOBIUS institutions–should check in first with the seminary receptionist.
  • Members of the general public (i.e. patrons who are not employees of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, who are not clergy, or who are not affiliated with an academic institution) are welcome to visit and consult our collections, but they should describe their research needs in their request.
  • Typically, we schedule visits and research consultations for outside patrons on weekdays, no earlier than 9 am (i.e. an hour after we open), and we ask visitors to conclude their business for the day at least 15 minutes before the library office closes (5 pm for most of the academic year).
  • Make sure to check out our website homepage for any announcements of closings or restricted hours.

Please remember that the Seminary is a residence, a home to our students and our community of resident priests. Should you visit Souvay, please respect the privacy of those who live here by NOT wandering into other areas of the building.

Fines, Blocks, & Missing Items

  • The Souvay Memorial Library does not charge late fees for overdue books.  However, out of consideration for your fellow patrons, we strongly encourage you to return or renew any borrowed materials by the due date.
  • You will receive weekly notices for any items you hold once they are overdue by seven days.
  • Items that are overdue by 28 days or more will be considered "lost."  Once items are declared lost, your borrowing privileges will be suspended.
  • If you lose an item and cannot produce it, you will be charged the cost of replacing the item plus a $25 processing fee.
  • Failure to produce a lost item or pay for its replacement may result in the permanent loss of borrowing privileges and, for seminarians, the withholding of transcripts.

AGS Access: Kenrick-Glennon Seminary

Access to AGS content (typically $25-$50 per article download) is regulated according to patron type to ensure responsible financial stewardship of this resource.  These restrictions are programmed into the platform itself.

  • Faculty have unlimited access to AGS articles.
  • Theologians (Configuration I-III and Vocational Synthesis) have access to 20 articles.
  • Kenrick staff have access to 10 articles.
  • Collegians and seminarians not yet in the theologate do not have access.  They are asked to access articles through Saint Louis University, where they have online access, or to use the embedded request forms to file an interlibrary loan (ILL) request.

In the event that a restricted patron needs additional access for research or thesis work, the library can extend the AGS limit for individual seminarians.  Please speak to a librarian about your needs.

AGS Access: Augustine Institute

The Institute's access to AGS content (typically $25-$50 per article download) is determined by the platform's authentication system:

  • Augustine Institute faculty, like faculty at Kenrick, have unlimited access to article downloads.
  • Institute students, whether remote or on-campus, have no direct access because AGS requires authentication using an institutional email address (i.e., you cannot use Gmail or Hotmail emails to log in).  We regret any inconvenience.  Virtually all AGS articles will appear with request form links.  Click on those, and a librarian can download the article you need on your behalf.
